Clarence Deyell Carruthers joined the firm of Gordon L. Wallace Consulting Structural Engineers immediately after graduation and rose to become Chairman of the Board of the renamed C.D. Carruthers and Wallace Limited in 1970.

The impressive Toronto skyline owes much to his company’s structural calculations and expertise, as do other buildings in Toronto and elsewhere across Canada—among them the reconstructed Sandford Fleming building at U of T.

He participated in public service to Canada by serving on the board of Directors of such varied institutions as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Canadian National Exhibition and the Health League of Canada.
