Leave Your Mark - Give to Graditude

100 per cent of donations directly support the student experience!

What were the best parts of your Skule™ experience? Chances are, they wouldn’t be possible without the support of alumni before you. Now, it’s your turn to give back. Graditude, U of T Engineering’s fundraising campaign for students is now underway.

Give to Graditude online today — 100 per cent of your donations go directly back into supporting experiential and collaborative opportunities for current and future undergraduate students. Last year, students raised nearly $6000 and hit 21% participation of full-time, fourth-year students –  all money being raised going back to discipline clubs!

The Graditude campaign runs until March 8, 2020. Make sure to contribute by this date for your gift to count towards class competitions and departmental prizes! A minimum donation of $5 is suggested and eligible for a tax receipt. All students who give $20.20 (your graduation year) receive a commemorative pin. (A limited number of 2019 pins are still available for those who were on their Professional Experience Year.)

What is Graditude?

The Graditude tradition began in 1983 with a group of students who were very tired of being underfunded. In traditional engineering fashion, they made an attempt to solve the problem. They took a number of approaches to change the situation, including:

  • Taking a sledgehammer to an old keypunch machine on front campus;
  • Holding a referendum whereby students voted to pay an additional $100 per year above regular tuition to help alleviate the shortfall in the equipment budget; and,
  • Starting a Graditude tradition in 1984 for leaving classes to make a pledge to give back to Skule™, an idea that caught on and inspired the rest of the university to follow suit.

Graditude is a way for you to leave your mark at Skule™. It is a gift to the future generations of Skule™ students who will benefit from your contributions. Graditude is also a demonstration of thankfulness. We all have something to be thankful for here at Skule; it may be an experience, a scholarship, a favourite professor, friend, staff person, or mentor and Graditude is the way to show your thanks!

Hear Sonia De Buglio (ChemE 9T4, MASc 9T8), director of alumni relations, and Bill Daniel (MinE 4T7), former president of Shell Canada and dedicated Skule™ supporter and volunteer, speak about the importance of giving back to U of T Engineering:

Who can donate to Graditude?

The main intention of the program is for students to give back to students. In particular, Graditude encourages fourth-year students to pay it forward to the students coming after them. But anyone can have gratitude or Graditude! Staff, faculty, alumni and friends who are grateful for being associated with the number-one engineering school in Canada can also contribute to this campaign.
