George Ross Lord contributed greatly to engineering education at U of T and to conservation in Southern Ontario. His teaching career spanned 36 years, from 1936 when he started as Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering, until 1971 when he retired as Head of the Department.

During that period, he found time to become President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (1946) and Chairman of the Metropolitan Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (1958-1972), serving both bodies with distinction.

The G. Ross Lord Dam and Reservoir in North York is a monument to his tremendous concern for the environment. Through his efforts, as a gifted educator and engineer, Canada’s quality of life improved.
