Thomas Richardson “Tommy” Loudon  served 47 years on the staff of the Civil Engineering Department at U of T. He retired in 1964 as Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil and Aeronautical Engineering.

A pioneer of Aeronautical Engineering, Loudon was instrumental in creating and heading the department.  From 1940-1944, he organized and commanded the Aeronautical Engineering School of the RCAF.

Loudon was an honour student, inspirational teacher, solider, athlete, rowing coach, athletic administrator, aviation pioneer, civil and aeronautical consultant, humanitarian and friend.

Recipient of the Gold Medal from the APEO. By his leadership and outstanding example, he inspired thousands of engineering students who passed through his classes.
