Charles Alfred Sankey devoted most of his career to research in the Canadian pulp and paper industry. He pioneered new processes and methods and was an expert in the optical properties of newsprint. He was outstanding in his pursuit for technological progress through the activities of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association.

Charles served two terms as Chancellor of Brock University where he actively participated in many levels of governance.

The recipient of many honours, he was a strong supporter of the arts, in particular, music.
