Albin Iver Johnson (1924-1977) recognized the importance of effective and productive interface between university teaching, university research and industrial practice. While a professor and dean of the Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Western Ontario (UWO), Mr. Johnson set up the structure and secured contracts for the System Analysis, Control and Design Activity at UWO. In addition to being of the principals and founders for the project, he also organized the activities and secured contracts.
Throughout his life, Mr. Johnson remained active in research and development. He co-authored 83 papers on research projects, production work in the fields of automatic control, computer simulation, steelmaking and heavy water processes.
He was renowned as an innovative and inspiring educator who had a keen personal interest in all of his students.
Achievements
- Pioneer in field of research and development of computer simulation and optimization of chemical plant processes
- Helped establish a new five-year program in Engineering and Management at McMaster University, which was the first in Canada
