Eldon Leslie Brown made the recovery of nickel from low-grade Northern Manitoba ore into a profitable venture by means of a radically new refining process. His versatility in mining exploration, development and finance enhanced Canada’s international mining reputation.

Through his efforts, Northern Canadian mining sites that he was associated with developed into town sites, together with their power and rail facilities. His initiative in airlifting diamond drills helped accelerate geological exploration.

He was awarded the Engineering Alumni Medal (1954) and the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Blaylock Meda (1968).
