Ronald MacDonald Gooderham became Canada’s outstanding welding authority, and was also recognized for his technical contributions to arc welding in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Gooderham developed new welding techniques, methods and standards. He greatly assisted the formation of the Canadian Welding Bureau, of which he was Director from 1946-1973.

Canada’s first government sponsored industrial research organization, the Canadian Welding Development Institute, was also assisted by him, and he became its Deputy Director General.

He was the recipient of the Engineering Alumni Medal in 1973.
