Hearn, Richard Lankaster

Richard Lankaster Hearn specialized in the design and construction of hydro-electric plants, holding positions of major responsibility with the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario, becoming its Chief Engineer; and Commission Chairman.

During World War II he was on loan to special agencies for consultation. These included the construction Engineering of Polymer Corporation’s synthetic rubber plant, and the development of atomic energy for peacetime purposes.

The post-war demand for power in Ontario increased his responsibilities for such vast projects as the Sir Adam Beck Generating Station No. 2, and the St. Lawrence Power Development.

His many honours and awards include the Julian C. Smith Medal, the Sir John Kennedy Medal, and the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario Gold Medal.

He became the first Chancellor of Brock University in 1967.
