Oscar Joseph Marshall spent most of his career improving the quality of surveying education and practice in the United States and Canada. From 1927-1947, he taught at Ohio State University, and undertook various field assignments during the summers.
In 1947, Marshall joined U of T as Professor of Civil Engineering and taught until his retirement in 1969.
One of Marshall’s innovative developments is a procedure combining ground surveys and photogrammetry to define legal boundaries for registry purposes. He is a recognized authority on topographic and control surveys in Canada and overseas.
