Gordon Mitchell (1893-1982) held important positions with nearly every major Ontario Hydro power project from 1920-1960. Having worked on the 1920 Sir Adam Beck Development, he returned in 1951 as Project Manager for the huge Sir Adam Beck Niagara Generating Station No. 2.

Between these two Niagara River projects, he directed construction on several Northern Ontario power sites, among them Abitibi Canyon for the Ontario Power Service Corporation.

His interesting and eminently successful career bridged a wide field of experience in construction and engineering, which culminated in his appointment in 1954 as Director of the vast Ontario Hydro St. Lawrence Power Development.

Completed in 1959, this complex project involved the relocation of entire communities, river diversion and the efficient coordination of heavy construction forces.
