Thall, Burnett Murray

Dr. Burnett Thall’s professional career has been one of great distinction. From his initial start as a research engineer with the National Research Council at the University of Montreal, his work continued when he became a physicist at Deep River, where he engaged in fundamental research at the Chalk River Atomic Energy Plant.

In 1947, he was appointed Lecturer, Applied Science and Engineering, University of Toronto; three years later, he became a Special Lecturer.

Dr. Thall joined the Torstar Corporation as a Consulting Engineer, and he became a Director of the Corporation in 1956; he was later appointed Senior Vice-President.

He is the author of over 25 papers in the field of engineering and newspaper production.

Dr. Thall has acted as Member of the Governing Council, University of Toronto, and Member of the President’s Committee. His many “Second Mile” activities include Chairman of the Joint Executive Committee of the Ontario Cancer Institute, Chairman of Oncology Committee for Health Science complex at U of T, Chairman of Business Affairs U of T, Chairman of the Women’s College Hospital Building Program, a Director of the Banting Institute and a Trustee of the Atkinson Foundation.

His illustrious career and his many community activities have been of considerable benefit to the public, the University and to the publishing field.
